Tour Overview
The Ultimate East Coast Australian Adventure | Sydney → Cairns with K’gari, Whitsundays & Daintree (14/16-Days)
All the East Coast icons—none of the faff. This small-group journey links Sydney, K’gari, the Whitsundays, the Great Barrier Reef, and (on the 16-day version) Port Douglas & the Daintree. Logistics are dialled: a smart domestic flight leap-frogs the longest haul, day trips are pre-booked, and comfortable stays are sorted—so it’s easier than going solo, easier to meet people, and often better value once reef, island and park fees are tallied.

I had the extreme pleasure to be part of the small boutique tour with Via Travel Australia. Jason, our guide, was a balance of fun, knowledge, great activities and suggestions. It was my first tour in over 10 years and if I had known what an amazing job Jason, Tara, and the rest of the crew at Via does each and every day - well I would have been on a tour with them sooner! Through the recent floods, storms and re-routing…..the team had it covered. We felt safe and taken care of. We had a brilliant group of people; it felt like we were all traveling with friends. I cannot recommend the Via team enough, the hotels, activities, options, meals, ability to turn on a dime, and company were all exceptional.

I had the most amazing 18 day trip up the East Coast of Australia with Via travel! Jason, our tour guide, was a wealth of knowledge! He was so much fun, organised and really flexible! He is definitely highly experienced and knows Australia inside and out! The tour group was small which meant moving from place to place was a lot easier and we could be flexible about our plans each day! We stayed in great accommodation, a lot of which was locally owned which I really enjoyed. It was nice to stay in smaller rooms of three people, I got to stay with my two friends for the whole trip which was epic! We packed so much into the tour. Even on days where we were travelling more, Jason squeezed in little nuggets to break up the journeys. I felt we covered everything I wanted to see on the East Coast and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to travel in a smaller group setting! The highlight of the trip was Magnetic Island, our accommodation was brilliant and even though we had a free day, Jason took us around the island to see all the best spots, wild koalas, wallabies and waterfalls!!

I recently embarked on a tour from Brisbane to Cairns, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! From start to finish, Jason, our tour guide, made the journey incredibly enjoyable. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and attention to detail truly elevated the entire trip. One of the highlights was our stop at Magnetic Island, where the fun seemed endless. Jason orchestrated fantastic activities that allowed us to explore the island's beauty while creating memories that will last a lifetime. From snorkeling adventures to relaxing beach picnics, every moment was filled with excitement and wonder. What truly set this tour apart was the incredible group dynamic fostered by Jason. He had a remarkable ability to bring people together, creating a sense of camaraderie among us all. Whether we were sharing stories around the table or embarking on an early morning hike, the bond we formed made the journey even more special. Overall, this tour exceeded all expectations, thanks in large part to Jason's exceptional guidance and the fantastic group dynamic. If you're looking for an unforgettable adventure from Brisbane to Cairns, look no further. This tour is an absolute must! Five stars all the way.

We were lucky enough to travel with Jason as our tour guide up the Gold Coast from Sydney to Cairns. It was the trip of a lifetime. The tour was full of experiences, knowledge, fun while learning about the culture of Australia, the history, the wildlife, the plant life and sea life. I cannot speak highly enough of the experience with Via Travel Australia. The places chosen to stay were unique and not all big commercial hotels. The group dinners were well coordinated. The ability to ask the guide questions as they came up and the personal commentary as the group was small enough not to get lost in the crowd. Every detail down to Jason shopping for a bbq at the hotel including some native foods like kangaroo. We got to see them, pet them and taste them if we chose to. He even took the time to drive us to find a Kasawari bird in the wild. I will definitely be doing more tours with Via Travel Australia… 5 stars all the way!

I recently had the pleasure of joining a Via tour travelling up the East Coast of Australia from Sydney to Port Douglas. It was a fabulous trip full of surprises and a huge variety of activities. All were included which I appreciated as it becomes annoying when every option incurs an additional charge. The accommodation was fabulous; we were surprised to find that we often ended up in a small studio with our own laundry facilities. Breakfast was included every morning and we were often taken to wonderful local cafes. But beating all was our guide Eoin who ensure everything was fun and ran smoothly. On our particular trip the weather caused a few issues but he ensured back up plans were made. His sense of humour and sense of fun too the trip to another level. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I actually only did the Brisbane to cairns portion of this tour, but had others in our group who completed the entire thing. They pack so much fun times into for my group only a week, but I never felt rushed at any of the locations. They always gave us ample time to see everything and enjoy the sites. From Fraser Island, to the Whitsundays, the Atherton Tablelands, and a day on the Great Barrier Reef. As a small group tour your able to get close knit with everyone and meet many people from all around the world. Our tour guide Justin was amazing, so informative, full of energy, and one of the best tour guides making sure everyone had the best time. I’m fact one day we were supposed to be having a long driving day, and our bus broke, we waited at the hotel for some time, but Justin problem solved until he was able to find us another form of transportation. The included meals were great, and the locations Justin picked to give us as an option for dinners on our first night somewhere was always great food. I would highly recommend Via Travel to anyone, especially if you get Justin as a guide.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Sydney-Brisbane Adventure trip! Easy going agenda, with full respect to the land and the people. The hotels, meals, and particularly the obligatory Aussie BBQ were great. Byron Bay was a bliss, wish I stayed a month :) Would skip Dorrigo and Newy, but understand that’s en route to nicer places! Shout out to Eoin for being such a legend! Careful - you will want to move to Australia after this trip! 100% recommended!

Local Insights
Local Insights
Sydney & NSW North Coast
- Surf-smart: Swim between the red–yellow flags on patrolled beaches; rips are common on open coasts.
- First Nations: This stretch includes Gadigal, Awabakal, Birpai, Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung Country—treat cultural sites with respect and follow local guidance.
- Whale window: Jun–Nov is humpback season; headlands like Cape Byron are classic lookout spots (sightings aren’t guaranteed).
K’gari, Noosa & Sunshine Coast
- Butchulla Country: K’gari (“paradise”) is the world’s largest sand island—its perched lakes (like Lake McKenzie) are rain-fed and incredibly clear; avoid lotions before swimming to keep them pristine.
- Dingo etiquette: Never feed or approach dingoes; keep food sealed and children close, and follow ranger advice.
- Tides rule the island: 4WD movements follow the tide—day plans can flex to keep beach driving safe.
Whitsundays & Great Barrier Reef
- Ngaro Sea Country: Island waters are culturally significant; some sites are protected—stick to marked tracks and boat briefings.
- Stinger season: In the tropics (roughly Oct–May), marine stingers are present—stinger suits are recommended and commonly supplied on reef/island days.
- Reef etiquette: Don’t stand on coral, keep hands to yourself, and give turtles and rays plenty of space. Reef-safe sunscreen and long-sleeve rash tops are smart choices.
Cairns & Atherton Tablelands
- Waterfall logic: Flows are strongest after rain; rock surfaces can be slick—use caution at edges and obey local signage.
- Crater lakes: Lake Eacham is a volcanic maar lake—deep, clear and usually calm; great for a relaxed freshwater swim.
Daintree & Cape Tribulation (16-Day Extension)
- Kuku Yalanji Country: Cultural experiences are shared on Country—ask before photographing people or sensitive places.
- Croc country: Don’t swim where signs advise against it, avoid the water’s edge, and keep hands inside boats during river cruises.
- Wild encounters: Cassowaries live here—give them space, never feed wildlife, and follow road-speed guidance.
Practical Tips
- Sun & heat: UV is high year-round; a wide-brim hat, UPF long sleeves and frequent hydration pay off.
- Insects: Sandflies and mozzies are most active at dawn/dusk near mangroves—long sleeves and repellent help.
- Connectivity: Expect patchy signal on K’gari and north of the Daintree River—download playlists/maps offline.
- Crowds & costs: Australian school holidays (Dec/Jan, Easter, Jun/Jul) lift demand in Byron, Noosa and the Whitsundays—book popular eateries early.
- Beach safety: Many beaches are unpatrolled—if in doubt, sit it out or choose lagoon/reef platforms on organised days.

- One-way tour routing rule applied:Origin → Start: MEL → SYDEnd → Start → Origin: CNS → SYD → MEL
- Rationale: single-origin method allows consistent, comparable reporting. If your origin differs, travel emissions will vary.
Emission Factors & Conservative Defaults
- Aviation: 0.20 kg CO₂e/pkm (economy, WTT + RF 1.9; short/medium haul conservative)
- Mini-coach (higher factor for small groups): 0.105 kg CO₂e/pkm
- Guided 4WD (per-guest allocation): 0.12 kg CO₂e/pkm
- Boats: fast boat 0.18, large catamaran 0.12, small wildlife boat 0.10 kg CO₂e/pkm
- Hotels (HCMI-style midscale avg): ~22 kg CO₂e/room-night → 11 kg per guest-night (twin-share basis)
- Meals (all, incl. off-tour): ~2.0 kg CO₂e/meal (mixed diet, conservative)
- Uncertainty uplift: +10% applied to totals

Assumptions
- Single-origin feeder hub set to Melbourne (MEL) using the one-way routing rule (origin→start + end→start→origin).
- Distances are rounded route-level estimates consistent with the published itinerary (minor local transfers approximated).
- Hotel emissions use a midscale average and twin-share basis (private rooms shift per-guest intensity upward).
- All meals counted at a conservative mixed-diet factor; personal choices vary.
- One optional wildlife boat day assumed per guest (standard Zero Trace rule) even if not taken.
- Where providers supply gear (e.g., snorkel equipment), embodied impacts are excluded.
Versioning
- Model: DEFRA-aligned factors; WTT included; RF = 1.9 for aviation; +10% uncertainty uplift.
- Report: v1.0 — generated 08 Sep 2025.
A 200% counter-impact is applied per person to gently restore degraded landscapes and balance the footprint of this journey.

Measure Your Co2Tour FAQ's
Where and when is the meeting point?
6:00 pm at Holiday Inn Potts Point, 203 Victoria St, Potts Point (Sydney) for the welcome briefing and group dinner.
What level of fitness is required?
Easy overall. Expect short walks (roughly 1–7 km on selected days), warm weather, and a few steps/boardwalks. You should be comfortable walking unaided and getting on/off small boats.
Is this good for solo travellers?
Yes. It’s easier to meet people in a small group, logistics are handled, and shared twin rooms help keep costs down. Solo travellers booking Twin Share are paired with a same-gender roommate; Private Single rooms are available (limited, higher rate).
More FAQ's
Are children allowed?
Ages 12–17 may join with an adult/guardian. Not suitable for under 12s due to the nature of the trip.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes—required. Comprehensive travel insurance (medical and emergency) is required by the operator. If relying on credit-card insurance, you’ll need the insurer’s contact details and policy number.
How much luggage can I bring?
Plan for one soft bag (~20 kg) plus a daypack (~5 kg) due to coach space. Some airline allowances may state 20–23 kg for the included Brisbane → Proserpine flight—final limits are confirmed in your pre-departure pack.
What’s included in the price?
All listed activities and entries (wildlife park, K’gari 4WD, Whitsundays boat day, Great Barrier Reef cruise with snorkel gear, Skyrail, national parks, and—on the 16-day—Mossman Gorge, Kuku Yalanji experience, Daintree day), 15 nights ensuite accommodation, 14 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 1 dinner, mini-coach transport, and the Brisbane → Proserpine domestic flight. See the “What’s Included / What’s Not” section for full detail.
What meals are included and how are diets handled?
14 x breakfasts, 5 x lunches, 1 x dinner. Other meals are pay-as-you-go for flexibility. Most dietary requirements can be accommodated when advised at booking.
Are snorkelling and reef fees covered?
Yes. The Great Barrier Reef day includes reef fees, snorkel gear, and a glass-bottom boat segment. Optional scuba diving is available at extra cost (conditions apply).
Will stinger suits be provided in the tropics?
During marine stinger season (roughly Oct–May in Far North Queensland), stinger suits are commonly supplied by reef/island operators. Follow crew guidance on the day.
Can I book flights on the final day?
The 16-day returns to Cairns around 6:00 pm on Day 16. The 14-day finishes back in Cairns after the Skyrail/Kuranda day. To avoid stress, consider a late-evening departure or an extra night in Cairns.
Is this accessible for mobility-impaired travellers?
Unfortunately, this itinerary is not suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or travellers who require walking aids.
What documents do I need to provide when booking?
Full name (as per passport), date of birth, contact number, dietaries, and passport details (needed for the domestic flight). Travellers 70+ will be asked for a doctor’s certificate at least 30 days prior to travel.
What happens if weather affects K’gari, reef, or rainforest days?
The operator may adjust timings, swap sites, or re-order activities to keep things safe and enjoyable. Park guidance, tides, wind, and rain can shape daily plans—especially on K’gari and the reef.
Is this cheaper than going solo?
Often, yes. With reef/island days and park entries bundled, shared transport, and group rates on key experiences, this trip frequently works out better value than piecing it together alone—plus it’s simpler and more social.

BOOKING & PAYMENT FAQ's
What’s the deposit & payment process?
Choose Tour
Pick Dates
Reserve Spot
Sort Logistics
Adventure Time!
Here’s how it works—clean, simple, no surprises:
A) "Book with Deposit"
- Place a deposit. You’ll pay the deposit at checkout.
- Tell us the details. You’ll receive an email asking for your tour name/date, passenger details, and any special requests (room type, extras, dietaries, etc.).
- We secure your spots. If everything’s clear, we confirm your booking by email so you can lock flights and plan the rest.
- If we need anything (e.g., room configuration, add-on activities), we’ll ask—then issue confirmation once sorted.
- Final balance invoice. After confirmation, you’ll be invoiced the remainder in line with the trips booking terms & conditions (each trip/partner has its own timeline but full payment is generally required at least 30 days prior to departure).
- If we are unable to confirm your spot: you’ll receive a full refund of your deposit. Zero stress.
B) Instant confirmation route (selected trips)
- Some departures use live operator booking calendars. These can deliver instant confirmation inside the operator’s system.
- If you book this way, the operator’s terms & conditions apply immediately (including payment schedules and change/cancellation rules).
Good to know
- Each trip may have slightly different deadlines and deposit rules—You can find the terms and conditions for your chosen booking on the listing page.
- You can still flag special requests after deposit—earlier is better for availability.
What’s your cancellation & refund policy?
Before your booking is confirmed
- If we can’t confirm your spots after you’ve paid a deposit, we’ll issue a full refund of that deposit.
After your booking is confirmed
- Cancellations follow the operator’s cancellation schedule (varies by trip and how close you are to departure).
- Expect possible fees or non-refundable items (e.g., internal flights, permits, certain accommodations).
- If a refund or credit is due, we’ll process it once the operator releases the funds and pass it back to your original payment method.
Instant-confirmation bookings (live operator calendars)
- The operator’s T&Cs apply immediately on these. Some departures are non-refundable or have stricter windows.
How to cancel
- Email us your booking reference, names on the booking, and a one-line request (“Please cancel”).
- We’ll reply with the exact penalties/refund or credit per your operator before proceeding.
If the operator cancels or significantly changes your trip
- You’ll be offered an alternative date, a travel credit, or a refund according to that operator’s policy. We’ll advocate for the best outcome for you.
Good to know
- Refunds are returned to the original payment method; bank/FX fees aren’t usually recoverable.
- Travel insurance is your friend for recovering non-refundable costs.
- The earlier you contact us, the better your options typically are.
Can I change dates or transfer my booking?
Short answer: Usually yes, but it depends on the operator’s rules and how close you are to departure.
Date changes
- We’ll check new-date availability with the operator.
- If a change is possible, you’ll pay any applicable operator change fee plus any price difference for the new date.
- The closer to departure, the tighter (and costlier) changes become; some trips treat late changes as a cancel + rebook under the operator’s policy.
Transfer to another person (name change)
- Many operators allow a name change/transfer up to a certain cut-off.
- Fees and deadlines vary by operator and services booked (e.g., flights may be non-transferable).
Instant-confirmation bookings
- If you booked via a live operator calendar, the operator’s T&Cs apply immediately. Some departures are non-changeable or have stricter windows.
How to request a change
- Email us with your booking reference, preferred new date/person’s details, and any flexibility.
- We’ll confirm options, fees, and any price differences before making changes.
Pro tips
- Ask early—more seats = more options, lower fees.
- Consider travel insurance that covers change/cancellation costs.
- Always check booking terms and conditions, links displayed on each tour page under the overview.
Are you accredited / is my money protected?
Yes. Your money is protected by our own accreditation and safeguards, plus the protections of our tour partners and the payment methods we use.
Our business safeguards
- Legally registered business with documented booking & refund policies.
- Commercial insurance appropriate to our operations.
- VTIC Quality Tourism Accreditation (Quality Tourism Accredited Business) confirming we meet industry standards for customer service, safety, and risk management.
Operator-level protection
- We partner only with established operators who maintain their own financial protections and clear refund/credit policies.
- When you book via a live operator calendar, payment is processed directly by the operator and their protections/terms apply immediately.
How your payment is handled
- All card payments run through a secure, PCI-compliant gateway; we don’t store your full card details.
- If you book through a live operator calendar, payment is processed directly into the operator’s system, and their terms & protections apply immediately.
Your legal rights
- Your purchase is also covered by consumer laws in your country/state (fair trading/refund rights). We reference the applicable jurisdiction on your paperwork.
Extra peace of mind
- Paying by credit card may add chargeback protection from your card issuer.
- We strongly recommend travel insurance to cover situations outside operator/consumer protections (your own cancellation, medical, delays).
Do you offer price matching?
Absolutely. Our prices update live from the operator, but if you spot the same tour on the same dates with the same inclusions and terms advertised for less — even in a public sale or promo — we’ll match it.
Already booked? We’ll refund the difference to your original payment method (eligibility applies, based on the final checkout price including taxes/fees from an authorised seller). And yes, the matched price still includes our 200% carbon offset — no dilution of benefits.
Do I need travel insurance?
Not for every trip—but for most travellers, we strongly recommend it
Some itineraries and partner operators do require insurance (especially remote treks, glacier walks, or bookings made via live operator calendars with mandatory cover).
When it’s required
- Certain partners/departures make insurance compulsory and may ask for proof before departure. If you book one of these, their T&Cs apply immediately.
What good cover includes
- Medical treatment & emergency evacuation/repatriation (high limits).
- Trip cancellation/interruption (protects your deposit and balance if plans change).
- Baggage & travel delay, and supplier default where available.
- Coverage for all activities on your itinerary (e.g., trekking, glacier hikes, kayaking) and any relevant altitudes/conditions.
- 24/7 assistance hotline and a clear claims process.
When to buy
- At booking. That way, cancellation benefits start immediately and you’re covered if something crops up before you travel.
How to share proof
- Email us your policy certificate (names, policy number, assistance phone).
- If you booked via an instant-confirmation operator calendar, follow their proof instructions and deadlines exactly.
Are departures guaranteed?
Most departures run as planned, but guarantees depend on the operator and minimum numbers. If there’s a wobble, we’ll tell you fast and give you options.
How it works
- Minimum group size: Most partners need a minimum number of travellers to confirm a trip.
- When we confirm: Each operator has a confirmation window (often 30–60 days before departure). We monitor load and update you as status changes.
- Any listing from "G-Adventures" will be guaranteed to run with a booking
If a trip is under-subscribed
- We’ll contact you with clear options:
Move to another date (same tour)
Switch to a comparable trip
Full refund of monies paid (per the operator’s terms)
- Any price differences for new dates/trips will be discussed before you decide.
If a trip is suspended (weather, park closures, strikes, force majeure)
- First, we’ll look to re-route or adjust (e.g., alternative park, similar activities).
- If that’s not viable, you can move dates, choose a different trip, or receive a refund/credit according to the operator’s policy.
Our promise
- Proactive comms: We’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more—no last-minute surprises if we can help it.
- No pressure choices: You pick the outcome; we handle the admin.
- Flight advice: Until your tour is confirmed, book flexible/refundable flights or add insurance that covers schedule changes.
