Travel. Restore. Repeat.

When you book with Zero Trace, we turn your booking into Real-World Restoration

Every booking funds landscape restoration 2x your trip’s footprint—assuring the journey leaves a mark on you, not the places we love.

1. It's Simple.

Everything is made of Carbon.

Carbon is a building block of life—trees, soil, oceans, even your breakfast.

A bit of CO₂ in the air is normal, but too much builds up and traps heat.

2. What adds it/absorbs it.

Lots of things add CO₂: flying, driving, electricity from fossil fuels, cement and steel, wasted food.

A few powerful things absorb it: forests, mangroves, seagrass meadows, healthy soils.

The Problem? We are adding to much, and taking out too little

3. Why counteract (and double)

A single long flight can create far more CO₂ than one tree absorbs in a year.

One tree might absorb ~25–50 kg annually; a return long-haul seat can be hundreds of kg to a few tonnes

That’s whycounteracting these impacts is vital. Booking with us does this. 200%

Carbon Impact Scale

CO₂ Emissions – This is roughly how much carbon one person on the tour is expected to create (transport, accommodation, activities, etc.).

CO₂ Reductions – This is the amount of carbon we'll fund being removed or avoided through verified projects — thanks to your booking. We go beyond neutral and fund 200% of the tour's footprint.

You'll see one of these on each tour listing

How We Offset Each Tour

Calculate → Double → Restore → Prove

  1. We Calculate the trip’s CO₂e with a conservative, standards-aligned method
  2. Double the total. It’s multiplied by 2 to create a buffer for uncertainty and non-CO₂ effects.
  3. Fund the Restoration of degraded landscapes via verified organizations.
  4. Prove it in the public Offset Ledger with IDs, retirement links & tracking data

What is "Landscape Restoration"

Planting Trees is so good for so many reasons. But its not enough.

Landscape restoration is the planned repair of degraded land and water systems at a whole-of-landscape scale.

It tackles root causes (erosion, invasives), rebuilds native vegetation and soils, reconnects habitats and waterways, and supports regenerative land use with local communities.

The payoff: richer biodiversity, cleaner water, more carbon stored, and landscapes that better handle fire, flood, and drought—in short, fix the system and our relationship with the earth.

Where Its Happening

Landscape restoration is happening almost everywhere degraded land meets willing hands—across Australia’s rangelands and river catchments, Africa’s Sahel (Great Green Wall), Latin America’s recovering forests, Southeast Asia’s mangroves and peatlands, and Europe’s rewilding corridors.

Cities are joining in too: daylighting creeks, rebuilding wetlands, and planting natives along streets and rail lines.

The projects we support range from Brazil's Amazon, The Philippines, Nepal & Kenya. The NGO's we support are Eden: People + Planet & Reforest.com.au

Our Impact

We’re just getting started, but the mission is clear: every tour booked helps restore land and support responsible travel. Small steps now, big impact over time.

Verified Land Restoration

We fund hands-in-the-dirt projects that heal degraded ecosystems—not just plant trees and hope.

Double Carbon Offsets

Every adventure offsets 2× the average emissions—covering not just the trip, but your journey there and back.

Support for Local Operators

We only partner with independently run, responsible tour providers. Your booking supports real people doing great work.

FAQ's

How exactly do you offset the environmental impact of each tour?

For every tour booked, we fund verified land restoration projects designed to absorb at least twice the estimated carbon footprint of your adventure. That includes everything from logistics to on-the-ground activities. No vague offsets—just real, trackable outcomes.

What standards back this up?

Boundaries follow the GHG Protocol. Factors come from DEFRA (global transport/fuels), Australia’s NGA (AU context), EPA (US context), and HCMI for hotels. Aviation CO₂ may be sourced from ICAO, then adjusted with RF

Why 200%?

Because ecosystems aren’t spreadsheets. Doubling creates a margin of safety for uncertainties and non-CO₂ effects—deliberately pushing the result net-positive.

What kind of restoration projects do you support?

We partner with specialists who restore degraded landscapes such as Eden: People+Planet —think rewilding, native vegetation recovery, and watershed repair. These aren’t one-off tree plantings—they’re long-term ecological wins that actually stick.

Is offsetting included in the tour price?

💚 Yes. Every tour booked includes full carbon offsetting—funded by us, not added to your bill. It’s just part of how we roll.

Are your offsets verified?

✅ Yep. All offset calculations are based on independent standards and partner audits. What we promise is what gets done.

Can I track the impact of my tour?

📊 Soon! Our live impact tracker is coming—but in the meantime, we’re transparent about where your offsets go. Ask us anytime.

Is this just tree-planting?

No. Restoration aims at durable ecosystem recovery (the right landscapes in the right places)—not just planting for the sake of numbers. Credit quality and transparency matter more than buzzwords.

Do you have a Co2 Calculator?
